Room 317 is located on the third floor at the end of the building and is one of the hotel's most quiet rooms. Historically, the room was a part time brothel during the 1920s and possibly the 1930s. Legend has it that salesmen traveling through Kingfield on the narrow gauge railroad would stay at the Herbert Grand Hotel and receive "entertainment" from some of the local gals in search of extra money. Room 317, located near the hotel's rear entrance, made for a quick escape in case of law enforcement or an enraged husband. The room features a queen size bed and includes an antique dresser-mirror combo plus antique wall sconces, an original cast iron steam register, antique brass clothes hooks and early 20th Century reproduction advertising artwork from the Moulin Rouge. A reproduction red tea lamp and reproduction 1921 hotel du parc clock complete the early 20th century brothel theme. As with all of the rooms at the Herbert Grand Hotel, Room 317 was renovated in 2016 and features free WiFi and a private bathroom. The bathroom features a pedestal sink and shower and tub combo.
