Skiing and Riding

The Herbert is located 15 miles from Sugarloaf mountain and 28.5 miles from Saddleback mountain. Sugarloaf At 4,237 feet and 138 trails, Sugarloaf offers the most vertical skiing and riding in all of Maine and New Hampshire, with the only lift-serviced, above tree-line access in the East. Sugarloaf also offers nearly 100km of cross-country skiing, an olympic-size skating rink and snowshoeing. Saddleback Ski and ride New England’s best value! Saddleback is big, different and on the move. New for 2009-2010 is the biggest glade in the east. Casablanca glade offers 44 acres of exciting tree skiing. New grooming equipment & additional snowmaking will also enhance your skiing and riding experience. Saddleback offers 66 trails and glades with 85% snowmaking coverage. A 2,000 ft vertical drop with a summit elevation of 4,120 feet makes Saddleback one of Maine’s largest ski mountains. Beginners will enjoy South Branch, nearly 4 miles of gentle secluded beginner terrain served by its own quad chair.

Snowmobiling

The Herbert is located on the eastern side of the Black Fly Loop, a system of 300 miles of handsomely groomed and well-maintained snowmobile trails, reaching north through Maine and New Hampshire. The Black Fly Loop has the widest variety of trails available in the east. SnoGoer Magazine and Snowmobile Magazine consider the region a snowmobiling hot spot in the United States and Canada. Spectacular look-outs abound from mountaintops to glacier valleys, and from lakes to ponds.
