The Herbert is located in the heart of Maine's western mountains and offers four seasons of outdoor activities. Whether you want to hit the slopes, gaze at the foliage, catch a salmon or hike the wilderness, the Herbert is the launching point for your adventure. In addition to the multitude of outdoor activities, the Herbert is located within walking distance of art galleries, the Stanley Museum and other local shops and artisans.
Golfing
The Herbert is located 15 miles from the Sugarloaf Golf Club, an 18 hole professional quality public golf course designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. The club was ranked 45th on the list of America’s 100 Greatest Public Golf Courses for 2007-2008. This challenging course offers breathtaking panoramic mountain views, a driving range and golf lessons.
Hiking and Mountain Biking
Kingfield is home to the Maine Huts & Trails, a system of hiking trails extending along the Appalachian Mountains. Our guests typically enjoy the challenge of braving the wilderness by day and relaxing in one of our lounges with a glass of wine in the evening.
Swimming, Canoeing and Kayaking
The Herbert is located near several canoe and kayak launch sites and is across the road from the Carrabassett River.
