The Herbert is located in the heart of Maine's western mountains and offers four seasons of outdoor activities. Whether you want to hit the slopes, gaze at the foliage, catch a salmon or hike the wilderness, the Herbert is the launching point for your adventure. In addition to the multitude of outdoor activities, the Herbert is located within walking distance of art galleries, the Stanley Museum and other local shops and artisans.

Foliage

Autumn in the western mountains is alive with radiant colors and scenic splendors. At its peak, usually from mid-September through mid-October, the foliage is an exuberant celebration of nature’s pallet and a wonder for all to experience. The Herbert is located on Route 27 in the heart of Maine’s foliage country.

Hunting

The Herbert is surrounded by several thousand square miles of lakes and ponds and nearly 150 miles of the rugged Appalachian Trail. Hunters can access any one of six properties, comprising more than 3,000 acres, managed by the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. For hunters interested in a canoe trip and jump shooting, the Chesterville WMA is always fertile ground. For those hunters craving a more remote experience, the Lack Brook Flowage WMA in Pierce Pond Township is a frequent guest favorite.
